The production of AIDA during the summer of the Capital of Culture year transformed the Haniel coal dump into an unconventional stage. The original Ancient Egyptian setting was replaced by an apocalyptic scene and the dump, which looked like a lunar landscape, was used as a harmonious backdrop. KALLE KRAUSE was responsible for the production and technical implementation of the stage and created a setting that reflected the message of this new interpretation with rugged and pure materials.

Rusty steel planks, a corroded metal slide, and enormous tool parts underlined the barren atmosphere and made the statement very clearly. However, the brittle industrial relics also concealed the sophisticated technology: This way, the artificial water stream could flood the arena, and the stage could be moved.
